Du vs. Sie in class

Between classmates, „du“ is common. In adult courses, a teacher might use „Sie“, but classmates usually speak informally.

A common first question

„Woher kommst du?“ is a normal, friendly question when you meet someone. It’s common in international cities and language classes.

Asking to repeat is normal

It’s normal to say „Wie bitte?“ when learning German. Most people respond politely.
